Biosphere-Atmosphere Interactions in Urban Areas: Emissions, Chemistry, and Climate
Biosphere-Atmosphere Interactions in Urban Areas: Emissions, Chemistry, and Climate
Session ID#: 247308
Session Description:
Biosphere-atmosphere interactions play a critical role in shaping air quality and climate in urban environments. Urban vegetation influences the exchange of reactive trace gases, greenhouse gases (GHGs), and aerosols, which interact with atmospheric chemistry and meteorological conditions. These interactions influence pollutant formation, atmospheric oxidation capacity, and feedback mechanisms that affect both local and regional weather and climate. This session focuses on how biosphere-atmosphere exchanges shape urban atmospheric chemistry and climate. Topics of interest include biosphere-mediated exchanges of reactive trace gases including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), GHGs emissions and sinks, and the influence of urban vegetation on weather and climate. We welcome contributions that use field observations, laboratory experiments, or numerical modeling to investigate these processes. By integrating multiple perspectives, this session aims to enhance our understanding of the biosphere’s role in urban atmospheric dynamics and its implications for air quality, climate adaptation, and sustainable urban development.
