Lithospheric Structure and Evolution: Insights from High-Density Constraints and Multi-Dataset Approaches
Lithospheric Structure and Evolution: Insights from High-Density Constraints and Multi-Dataset Approaches
Session ID#: 247337
Session Description:
Lithospheric dynamics control the long-term stability, deformation, and evolution of tectonic plates. High-resolution geophysical observations are crucial for constraining lithospheric structure, composition, mineral systems, and interactions with both the deeper mantle and the overlying crust. Recent advances in dense geophysical deployments, improved imaging techniques, and integrated datasets are revolutionizing our understanding of lithospheric processes. These developments provide unprecedented insights into a range of tectonic settings. We invite studies that utilize dense regional seismic arrays (e.g., the on-going WA Array, AusArray, China Array, among others), magnetotelluric surveys, geochemical sampling, and other high-density geophysical techniques to explore lithospheric dynamics. We particularly welcome research that integrates multiple datasets to refine models of lithosphere-asthenosphere interactions, mantle flow, deformation, craton stability, and long-term lithospheric evolution.
