Assessing Tropical Cyclone Hazards and Risk in a Changing Climate System

Session ID#: 247661

Session Description:
As long-term shifts in environmental and climatic conditions continue to transform our planet, it is increasingly important to understand how these changes influence tropical cyclone hazards to support effective disaster risk management and mitigation strategies. This session invites contributions that explore the evolving nature of tropical cyclone activity under changing climate conditions, including variations in storm frequency, intensity, size, and related hazards such as precipitation patterns and storm surges. We particularly welcome recent advancements in methodologies designed to detect, attribute, and predict these changes—ranging from observational analyses and numerical modeling to statistical and machine learning approaches. Studies addressing risk assessment, perception and preparedness in the context of tropical cyclones are also encouraged. By bringing together insights from multiple disciplines, this session seeks to advance a comprehensive understanding of how societies can better prepare for the increasing challenges posed by tropical cyclones in a changing climate system.
