Habitability Across the Solar System and Exoplanets
Habitability Across the Solar System and Exoplanets
Session ID#: 247989
Session Description:
Exoplanetary and biogenicity discoveries are rapidly establishing new areas of collaborative work. Examples include serpentinization on Mars and methane in the atmosphere of possibly Hycean exoplanets like K2-18 b. Pioneering missions by emergent space-faring nations such as China, UAE, India, and the Republic of Korea are uniting the world in the scientific quest to answer: are we the universe’s sole habitat? Developments like NASA’s Moon to Mars program, the USA-NASEM study on Mars exploration strategy, and the KISS report on biosignature detection reinforce a transdisciplinary approach to understanding the interplay between astronomical conditions and biogenic processes. Contributors are invited to explore diverse topics unified by the thread of life, from stellar evolution to atmospheric biosignature detection, relevant to an upcoming special journal issue.
