Compound Flooding in Coastal Urban Areas: Integrating Sea Level Rise, Tidal, Groundwater, and Stormwater Dynamics
Session ID#: 248166
Session Description:
Coastal urban areas are increasingly exposed to compound flooding resulting from the convergence of multiple factors, including sea level rise, tidal forcing, groundwater, and stormwater runoff. Climate change and rapid urbanization have further intensified these risks, increasing the frequency, severity, and extent of flood impacts. Accurately estimating the likelihood of compound flood events and understanding the complex interactions driving them are essential to identify vulnerable communities and to design protecting infrastructure. This session aims to bring together researchers, modelers, and practitioners to share new insights on the drivers, dynamics, and consequences of compound flooding in coastal and urban environments. We welcome submissions that address, but are not limited to:1. Identification and analysis of drivers contributing to compound flood events.2. Development of integrated models to simulate and assess compound flooding.3. Projections of future flood risk under climate and land-use change.4. Evaluation of adaptation strategies, including green infrastructure and flood-resilient design
