Integrating Perspectives on Carbon Cycling Across the Marine Continuum.
Integrating Perspectives on Carbon Cycling Across the Marine Continuum.
Session ID#: 248244
Session Description:
Marine carbon cycle is a fundamental component of Earth's climate system, regulating atmospheric CO₂ levels and global biogeochemical cycles. Spanning from dynamic coastal zones to the open ocean, processes involving both organic and inorganic carbon are crucial for carbon storage, transformation, and fluxes. In the face of accelerated climate change, shifting ecosystems, and intensifying human impacts, it is imperative to develop an integrated understanding of these processes across various spatial and temporal scales. This session invites researchers employing methodologies like geochemical proxies, sediment traps, in situ imaging, sensing technologies, and numerical simulations to contribute their expertise. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, the session aims to unify insights and methodologies, addressing topics from the interplay of terrestrial and marine inputs in coastal systems to the pivotal roles of open-ocean processes in carbon flux and sequestration. Scientists at all career stages, including early-career researchers and students, are encouraged to join this vibrant dialogue.
