Session Proposal: MULTISCALE processes in planetary, space and astrophysics: turbulence, magnetic reconnection, and shocks (AGU25)

MULTISCALE processes in planetary, space and astrophysics: turbulence, magnetic reconnection, and shocks

Session ID#: 248548

Session Description:
Turbulence, reconnection, and shocks are fundamental processes in planetary, space, and astrophysics, from the Earth’s magnetosphere and solar wind through solar, stellar, and galactic dynamics to astrophysical discs. While traditionally studied individually, recent results reveal complex interactions between these processes. The wide range of temporal and spatial scales involved in these processes makes their interplay more complicated. Understanding the multiscale dynamics of turbulence, reconnection and shock and their interplay is crucial for uncovering the physics of energy transfer and particle energization. Recently, the multidisciplinary approach in plasma research has been increasing as well as the range of temporal and spatial scales resolved by modern instrumentation. The goal of this session is to bring together experts from planetary, space and astrophysical communities to discuss how these multiscale processes interweave with each other, highlight the significant progress being made, and foster cross-disciplinary collaboration. We welcome contributions from theory, simulations, experiments and observations.
