Understanding erosional to depositional landscape dynamics using thermo- and geochronological approaches.
Session ID#: 248585
Session Description:
Solid earth, atmospheric, and surface processes are coupled via complex feedbacks. Landscapes and sedimentary systems are manifestations of those interactions. As such, sedimentary basins and landscapes have the capacity to record much of earth’s history, and also have the potential to be exploited for understanding deformation, rheology, sedimentary processes, resource location and viability, erodibility, weathering, the carbon cycle, and the biosphere. The goal of this session is to highlight innovative thermo- and geochronological methods, including thermochronology, cosmogenic radionuclides, and detrital methods, as well as cross-disciplinary studies that document the evolution of erosional to depositional landscapes. We welcome regional case studies, new methods development, and modeling studies that investigate erosional landscapes to depositional sinks over a range of spatial and temporal scales.
