Session Proposal: Advances in Climate Engineering Science (AGU25)

GC005
Advances in Climate Engineering Science

Session ID#: 249763

Session Description:
As the window to stop catastrophic climate change narrows, attention has turned to Solar Radiation Modification (SRM; also called climate intervention, or geoengineering), the deliberate modification of the climate system via the reflection of sunlight. Proposed methods of SRM include stratospheric aerosol injection (SAI), marine cloud brightening (MCB), and surface albedo modification. It is critical to understand the potential risks posed by SRM and weigh them against the risks of increasing climate change. We welcome contributions that advance natural science research in SRM, including physical climate, ecosystem effects, climate impacts (such as consequences for agriculture, water, or energy), engineering, experimental results, and Earth system observations. We encourage interdisciplinary studies that connect climate impacts with various fields such as the social sciences, political analysis, ethics, and governance. We particularly encourage submissions from underrepresented communities or those who may be disproportionately affected by climate change.
