Hydrometeorological Extremes in Data‑Scarce Arid Regions: Modeling, Observation, and Risk Assessment

Session ID#: 249784

Session Description:
Arid and semi-arid regions sustain billions yet remain poorly monitored. They face flash floods, prolonged droughts, and cascading hazards that defy traditional frameworks. This session highlights integrated observational and modeling strategies to address data scarcity, including: Hydrological modeling for ungauged catchments, Data fusion of sparse observations with remote sensing proxies, Machine learning models, Compound hazard workflows linking flood, drought, dust storms, and wildfires, Community driven monitoring via low-cost sensors, Uncertainty quantification under scarce data, Frameworks to integrate outputs into adaptive water management and resilience planning. We invite contributions that advance reconstruction, prediction, and risk mitigation of hydrometeorological extremes in arid landscapes.
