A Scientific and Observational Network for a Connected Planet: The Contribution of Geodesy to Earth System Monitoring
Session ID#: 251493
Session Description:
Geodetic observations are fundamental to understanding Earth system dynamics across spatial and temporal scales. The Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG) interacts with the IAG Services to provide precise, consistent, and long-term observations of the Earth's shape, rotation, gravity field, and their temporal variations. This session focuses on the integration of geodetic techniques - including GNSS, SLR, VLBI, DORIS, gravimetry and satellite missions - with Earth science applications in geophysics, climate, hydrology, oceanography and cryosphere research. We invite contributions that demonstrate the scientific value of geodesy in multidisciplinary contexts, including mass transport, sea level change, crustal deformation, space water research, geohazard monitoring and the development, application of global reference frames or potential expansions of geodesy in the cislunar domain. Emphasis is placed on the role of the IAG Services and GGOS in supporting the scientific community through interoperable data, models and coordinated international efforts.
