Advancements in Geochronology and Thermochronology
Advancements in Geochronology and Thermochronology
Session ID#: 251588
Session Description:
Geochronology and thermochronology provide essential constraints on the timing and tempo of processes across the Earth system and beyond; thus, improving existing techniques and broadening their applications remain critical goals. This session will bring together innovations across the spectrum of geochronology and thermochronology, including but not limited to: U-Pb, Ar-Ar, Rb-Sr, Lu-Hf, Re-Os, Sm-Nd, (U-Th)/He, fission track, and any multi-chronometer approaches incorporating these systems or others. We invite contributions that explore methodological advancements including developments of new protocols and reference materials, improvements in accuracy and precision, and refining statistical approaches to age modeling. Applications of cutting-edge methods to the geosciences at all scales and throughout Earth history are welcome, including studies of age variations at the sub-grain to continental scale, from the Precambrian through the Cenozoic.
