Landscape Strategies to Support Water Capture and Recharge in Dryland Regions
Landscape Strategies to Support Water Capture and Recharge in Dryland Regions
Session ID#: 252285
Session Description:
Groundwater is a critical resource in dryland regions across the world and is being increasingly stressed by climatic trends, pumping, and land uses and management approaches. This session will discuss cross-disciplinary approaches to support water management efforts aimed at enhancing water capture or contributing to augmentation of groundwater resources. We welcome contributions in areas of hydrology, atmospheric sciences, ecology, and engineering supporting groundwater recharge in both natural and urban environments. Examples include methods to identify areas where surface runoff could be captured and regions favorable to recharge, and innovative localized and distributed recharge techniques. This session represents an opportunity to build interdisciplinary approaches rooted in the earth sciences to benefit resource managers, decision-makers, and communities and build resiliency into water systems.
