Harmonizing Water Quantity, Quality, and Infrastructure Data for Water Resource Management
Session ID#: 252647
Session Description:
Effective decision making in water and natural resource management, conservation, and infrastructure planning requires seamless integration of diverse datasets spanning domains of water quantity and quality, ecology, built infrastructure, and societal dynamics. However, data fragmentation, inconsistencies in collection methodologies, interoperability challenges, and institutional barriers often hinder holistic analysis and evidence-based actions. This session brings together experts from hydrology, environmental science, urban planning, and data science to explore innovations in linking these critical data streams. Presentations will focus on overcoming technical, institutional, or governance barriers to data sharing, collaboration, and full utilization of information across sectors. Submissions should provide insight into challenges and the current state of observational and modeling systems, highlight tools or workflows that facilitate data fusion/harmonization/integration, and demonstrate successful cross-sectoral data synthesis. Of particular interest is work that also accounts for dynamics such as non-stationarity, social responses to changes in climate, land management strategies, or energy development.
