Session Proposal: Open-Source Tools in Near-Surface Geophysics (AGU25)

NS013
Open-Source Tools in Near-Surface Geophysics

Session ID#: 252752

Session Description:
Near-surface geophysics encompasses a suite of methods that deliver high-density spatial and temporal data, enabling detailed characterization of Earth’s surface and subsurface. These capabilities are increasingly important in tackling 21st-century challenges such as climate change, food and water security, and the global energy transition. Open-source tools—including software, datasets, and documentation—are transforming how researchers design surveys, acquire data, and conduct transparent, reproducible processing and interpretation. Beyond advancing science, these tools also play a key role in communicating geophysical insights to stakeholders, decision-makers, and the public. We invite abstracts that address:The development or application of open-source tools to tackle scientific problems in near-surface geophysics; The use of open-source tools to foster communication and engagement with non-specialist audiences. We especially encourage submissions featuring case studies, novel software contributions, collaborative platforms, or community-driven initiatives that demonstrate the impact and potential of open-source approaches.
