Climate change impact on water pollution and air pollution
Climate change impact on water pollution and air pollution
Session ID#: 253102
Session Description:
More frequent hurricanes and tropical storms have increased combined sewer overflows (CSOs) in New York City (NYC) and other urban areas. Every year there is approximately 27 billion gallons of sewage and runoff make it into the NYC waterways, which has caused water pollution-nutrient and bacteria concentrations increased. It’s not safe for swimming, boating, rowing, or fishing during or after rainstorms. During heavy rainstorms, flushing a toilet could contribute to human waste entering NYC waterways. More frequent droughts have caused devastating wild fires in Los Angeles California early this year that released particulate matter, carbon monoxide, greenhouse gases and potential lead hazards. It brought particulate matter PM 2.5 to NYC. Any topic related to climate change impacted water pollution and air pollution is welcome to this session.
