Session Description:
This session addresses the growing need for short-term predictions and long-term risk assessments of flood hazards across coastal, inland, and transition zones. We welcome insights encompassing storm surges, waves, tides, inland hydrology, and low-frequency ocean variability (baroclinic effects). Emphasizing transformational artificial intelligence (AI) tools and techniques, we invite studies on three key topics:
- Advanced Modeling: Utilizing AI/ML frameworks (e.g., deep learning, foundation models, physics-informed neural networks, multi-agent systems) integrated with cloud computing, geospatial tools, and open-source platforms to enhance compound flood modeling and prediction.
- Algorithmic Mitigation: Applying novel computational, mathematical, and AI-driven techniques to analyze and mitigate uncertainties in holistic flood prediction.
- Impact Evaluation: Evaluating the impacts of flooding on communities and critical infrastructure across coastal, transition, and inland environments.
The goal is to foster collaboration among researchers, data scientists, and practitioners to advance flood assessment methods and deepen our understanding of broader flood impacts through state-of-the-art technologies.
