Short-lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) and Health: Integrating SLCP Science with Air Quality and Health Impact Assessment

Session Description:
Short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), particularly methane, tropospheric ozone, and black carbon, drive near-term warming while simultaneously degrading air quality and human health. Reducing SLCP emissions offers rapid climate and health co-benefits, yet the scientific evidence connecting SLCP sources to health outcomes remains fragmented across disciplines. This session bridges atmospheric science, exposure assessment, and public health to examine how SLCP emissions, from oil and gas, industrial, agriculture, waste, and biomass burning—affect air quality and population health. We invite contributions on SLCP emission characterization using satellite and ground-based observations; atmospheric transport and chemistry modeling linking emissions to population exposure; health impact assessment of SLCP mitigation scenarios; co-pollutant health risks from methane emission sources; environmental justice and equity in SLCP exposure; and policy evaluation of SLCP reduction commitments including the Global Methane Pledge.
