Emerging Air Pollutants: Emissions, Chemistry, and Air Quality Impacts

Session Description:
As the world moves away from fossil fuels to mitigate both air pollution and climate warming, previously underappreciated emission sources, such as volatile chemical products (VCPs), cooking emissions, and road pavements, are becoming more prominent contributors to hazardous pollutants such as ozone and secondary organic aerosol. Likewise, persistent organic pollutants emitted to the atmosphere (e.g., PFAS and microplastics), can transport around the globe and accumulate in soils, water, and ice. Furthermore, global warming can exacerbate air pollution by altering emissions, chemical reaction rates, and atmospheric circulations. The emerging air pollution (EAP), which is climate-sensitive, underappreciated, or previously masked by fossil fuel emissions, presents additional challenges for air quality management.

This session invites submissions that provide observational, modelling, and laboratory perspectives on EAP on local, regional or global scales. We welcome studies that explore the emissions, chemistry, and air quality impacts, as well as the climate and health implications, of EAP.
