The Future of the Fossil Record: Developments, Trends and Innovative Approaches in Paleontology

Session Description:
Paleontology is increasingly shaped by the development and integration of novel methodologies. Recent advances in dating techniques, imaging technologies, computational modeling, and analytical methods have transformed our ability to investigate the evolution of long-extinct organisms in unprecedented detail. Innovations such as synchrotron radiation scanning, stable isotope analyses, 3D modeling and printing, experimental and taphonomic approaches, and laser-stimulated fluorescence for the detection of soft tissues are revolutionizing the field. In parallel, the growing application of machine learning is enabling new ways to analyze complex datasets and identify patterns that were previously inaccessible. 

Submissions may explore past life and environment using a wide range of approaches. We welcome interdisciplinary contributions spanning the full breadth of paleontology (vertebrates, invertebrates, microfossils, and plants). This session aims to bring together researchers and educators united by a common goal: expanding our perspectives and methodological toolkits for understanding the history of life on Earth.
