Session Description:
Wildfires have prolonged impacts on watersheds, driving shifts in hydrologic, sediment, and biogeochemical regimes with consequences for aquatic habitat, water resources, and ecosystem recovery. These regime changes are important within riparian corridors and hyporheic zones where hydrological connectivity and biogeochemical processing are concentrated.
This session focuses on wildfire impacts on streamflow, water quality, sediment transport, and aquatic habitat in forested watersheds. We invite contributions examining post-fire trajectories for burned, recovering, and restored watersheds with a focus on:
- Coupled hydrologic–geomorphic–biogeochemical responses
- Groundwater–surface water interactions
- Hillslope hydrology and sediment dynamics
- Vegetation recovery feedbacks on hydrology and biogeochemistry
- Large wood and channel morphology dynamics
- Carbon, nutrient, and metal transport through the stream corridor
- Restoration effects on water quality and sediment dynamics
- Ecosystem controls on biogeochemistry
We especially encourage work linking process-level understanding to management outcomes for water resource managers and restoration practitioners. Experimental, observational, and modeling approaches are all welcome.
