Applications of Hydrogeophysical Methods to Investigate Peat-Forming Wetlands

Session Description:
For more than four decades, a progressively increasing array of hydrogeophysical applications has been developed in wetland environments. Studies have evolved beyond discrete measurements of peat thickness or mineral soil architecture to include dynamic processes such as biogenic gas fluxes, rates of groundwater–surface water exchange, permafrost stability, saltwater intrusion, or structurally-informed hydrogeologic models for wetland restoration efforts.
This session invites submissions that use near-surface geophysical and remote sensing methods for innovative field and laboratory investigations of peat-forming wetlands across all latitudes. Interdisciplinary approaches highlighting vegetation patterning, hydrogeologic controls, carbon cycling, paleo-reconstruction, and responses to human/climatic disturbances are of particular interest.
