Advancing Community-Driven Nature-Based Climate Solutions

Session Description:
Climate mitigation requires reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from natural and working lands (NWL; e.g., forests, agriculture, grasslands, rangelands, wetlands). NWL are one of the largest sources of GHG emissions globally, accounting for 30-40% of total emissions. Land management solutions to decrease NWL emissions are known as nature-based climate solutions (NbCS). For the successful implementation of NbCS, community involvement in co-development and deployment is essential. We welcome proposals evaluating GHG emissions reductions (including CO2, N2O, CH4, other trace gases) or carbon stock increases (e.g., soil carbon, aboveground biomass) from the implementation of NbCS across all ecosystems or working lands. We encourage submissions from research teams collaborating with community partners (e.g., Tribes, government agencies, NGOs, etc.) to co-develop, implement, and/or assess NbCS. By showcasing science collaborations between scientists and communities to advance NbCS, this session will highlight the AGU26 theme, Where Science Connects.
