African Hydroclimatology: Advances and Solutions for Global Water Security

Session Description:
Africa’s water challenges, spanning diverse climates, ecosystems, and socio-economic contexts, offer critical insights into global water security. This session highlights cutting-edge advances in hydroclimatology research and practice, emphasizing African water and climate dynamics while generating solutions for water‑stressed regions worldwide. We invite contributions across a wide range of topics and scales, including but not limited to emerging data sources (e.g., citizen science, IoT), remote sensing, AI-driven modeling, digital twins, climate and land-use impacts, hydroclimatic extremes (floods and droughts) and their drivers, human–water interactions, decision-support systems, and the Water–Energy–Food–Ecosystem nexus. We particularly encourage interdisciplinary studies that integrate traditional knowledge and community-based approaches with scientific advancements for sustainable water management, as well as work bridging science, policy, and practice. This session aims to foster collaboration among researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working at the intersection of climate and water.
