Understanding and Modeling of Mesoscale and Severe Local Convective Storm Processes

Session Description:
Convective storm systems significantly influence the hydrological cycle and global atmospheric circulation, producing hazardous weather phenomena such as hail, flash flooding, damaging winds, and tornadoes. These impacts vary by convective lifecycle stage and spatial scale, with initiation, growth, intensity, and evolution closely tied to environmental conditions from local to large scales. Consequently, challenges in predicting convective storms stem from incomplete understanding of these complex interactions.
This session invites theoretical, observational (including field and laboratory experiments), and numerical modeling studies across diverse spatial and temporal scales to advance understanding, parameterization, and prediction of convective storms and their hazards. Contributions focusing on storm structure and dynamics, physical processes influencing storm initiation and lifecycle, and storms-environment interactions—such as land surface feedback—are encouraged. We particularly welcome studies integrating observations with modeling and employing AI/ML approaches to improve understanding and prediction of deep convective storm processes, interactions, and related hazards.
