Advancing Global Imaging Spectroscopy and Thermal Infrared Measurements: ECOSTRESS, EMIT, and EAGLE

Session Description:
A new generation of solar-reflected imaging spectrometers and thermal infrared imagers is revolutionizing Earth surface studies. NASA’s EAGLE missions will begin launching no later than spring 2029, providing this capability on global scales with regular repeat cadence. This capability will enable diverse new societal applications ranging from precision agriculture, to water resource management, to geologic prospecting.

Already, the community is preparing with data already available from precursor instruments like EMIT and ECOSTRESS, and related missions, which include DESIS, EnMAP, HiSUI, PACE, PRISMA. This session will survey airborne precursor research and new results from these existing orbital instruments.  Our themes include: coral reef surveys; geology and volcano investigations; terrestrial ecology and biodiversity studies; land-atmosphere interactions; aquatic ecosystems and water quality monitoring; hydrology studies, including ice and snow; land and water use studies; wildfires; greenhouse gas emissions; urban studies; and more.
