Subduction Top to Bottom: Convergent Margin Histories and Processes of the Western Pacific and Other Active and Fossil Subduction Zones

Session Description:
This session invites presentations on the subduction zones (SZs) arrayed along the western margin of the Pacific Basin from Kamchatka south to Hikurangi including the Nankai, Ryukyu, and other SZs of the western Philippine Sea. Forearc structure, fluid processes, seismicity, and active volcanism vary among these SZs in part due to variations in incoming plate properties such as plate age, sediment thickness, plate roughness, convergence speed and orthogonality. We seek contributions focused on these SZs that explore seismic, volcanic, and deformation processes. We encourage contributions addressing variations in forearc and arc behavior. We also welcome submissions that highlight new research at both ancient and modern SZs, including studies based on plate reconstructions, paleoseismicity, on-land and marine geology, high-pressure metamorphic rocks, and volcanology. We aim to highlight recent advances in areas of earthquake and slip physics, geochemistry, structural geology, igneous, metamorphic and experimental petrology and thermal and geodynamic modeling.
