Session Description:
This session honors the career of Barry Hanan, whose lifetime contributions to isotope geochemistry advanced our understanding of the heterogeneity and complexity of earth’s mantle. This session will highlight advances in both radiogenic and stable isotope systems that trace the structure, evolution, and dynamics of Earth’s mantle. Submissions will explore the origin and characteristics of geochemical reservoirs, the role of lithospheric recycling in generating isotopic diversity, and the integration of isotopic data with geophysical and petrological observations. Contributions will span global case studies, novel analytical techniques, and emerging perspectives on mantle mixing and preservation of heterogeneity over geologic timescales.
