Integrating advanced snow observations and emerging technologies into operational water supply environments

Session Description:
Ongoing drought and hydroclimatic variability are driving demand for application of latest snow research from experimental monitoring and model development to functional integration into operational water management and reliable decision-support tools. This need has recently been demonstrated by the Bureau of Reclamation’s Snow Water Supply Forecasting Program, supporting the continued advancement and collaboration between research and operations. This session invites contributions that focus on the "operationalizing" of snow monitoring tools, bridging the gap between scientific research on the cryospheric and applied hydrology. We welcome submissions within areas of operational monitoring, such as remote sensing or dense in-situ sensor networks within managed basins; modeling technologies, such as the development and application of physical based modeling, machine learning, or advanced data assimilation techniques designed to improve forecast skill or bypass traditional parameterization uncertainties. Case studies, lessons learned, and recommendations that enhanced seasonal runoff predictions and informed real-world reservoir operations are also encouraged.
