Recent Advances in Near-Surface Geophysics [General Contributions]

Session Description:
Advances in instrumentation and modeling software have expanded the application of near-surface geophysical methods within the fields of environmental monitoring and remediation, geologic characterization, and ecosystem management. Open-source systems and inversion codes have increased the accessibility of geophysical tools for researchers and other practitioners. In response to these advancements, this session seeks to highlight exploratory approaches to, and novel applications of, near-surface geophysical methods, alongside improvements to experimental field and laboratory techniques.
We invite submissions that demonstrate innovative uses of electrical, electromagnetic, and seismic methods, as well as passive field techniques, across a broad range of spatial and temporal scales. Interdisciplinary approaches targeting the management of groundwater resources, monitoring biogeochemical processes, and modeling soil-plant-atmosphere interactions are of particular interest. We encourage contributions that incorporate open-source hardware and software, numerical and inverse modeling, machine learning, AI-driven interpretation, and joint application of complementary geophysical methods.
