Understanding the dynamics of Tropical Basin Interactions across spatiotemporal scales

Session Description:
Interactions among the tropical Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans play a critical role in shaping Earth system variability and its response to external forcing. Variability in one basin can influence others through atmospheric bridge and oceanic pathways, modulating phenomena such as ENSO, IOD and the Atlantic Nino. These cross-basin linkages can significantly modulate global hydroclimate, climate extremes such as tropical cyclones and marine heatwaves, and predictability across scales. This session invites contributions that advance understanding of tropical basin interactions from interannual to long-term timescales and from regional to global spatial scales. We welcome studies using observations, reanalyses, paleoclimate records, and CMIP models, including large ensembles. Topics include mechanisms of cross-basin coupling, impacts on regional climate and climate extremes, changes under external forcing, and model biases and uncertainties. By bringing together diverse approaches, this session aims to improve our understanding of how tropical basin interactions shape Earth system and predictability.
