Interagency Session on Leveraging Remote Sensing Data for Integrated Management of Water Resources and Water Risks in the American West

Session Description:
This session, co-convened by NASA, USGS, USACE, and USBR, highlights integration of satellite and airborne remote sensing (RS) into day-to-day water management practices in the western U.S., emphasizing synergy and fusion with in-situ monitoring, geophysical modeling, socioeconomic modeling, and/or decision-support systems.   Session contributions will share innovations leveraging RS to generate actionable information supporting operational processes, showcasing how it can support decision-making across multiple levels and branches of governance.  Contributors are encouraged to touch on how operational needs were identified, and any collaborative processes that helped define gaps driving the innovation.  Application topics may include flood and drought management, tracking and forecasting surface and ground water availability, hydrologic impacts of landscape change, instream flow needs, source water protection, real-time hazard warning systems, water conservation, rapid detection and characterization of hydrometeorological anomalies and extremes, and other interdisciplinary water risk/resource issues. Examples of practical co-developed innovation achieved through multi-sectoral partnerships are especially welcome.
