“Strange Ice”: Answer Unsettled Glacier and Ice Sheet Questions with Interdisciplinary Research

Interdisciplinary research has been proven to be a powerful tool for advancing our understanding of the complex nature of glaciers and ice sheets. This collaborative approach provides a platform for scientists from diverse fields to synergize their expertise, which is particularly productive when addressing the long-standing uncertainties and emerging questions in cryospheric science.
This session aims to explore the integration of observational, sampling, modeling, and experimental methodologies to address the unresolved glacier and ice sheet questions and to foster interdisciplinary discussions and collaborations. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to: old ice and the paleoclimate record preservation; irregularities in cryospheric remote sensing; terrestrial analogs for icy worlds; supraglacial, englacial, and subglacial conditions and processes; ice-solid earth interaction; properties and dynamics of near-basal ice; ice mass stability thresholds; ice fabric evolution; and the role of ice in global climate variability.
