Advances in Atmospheric Chemistry Driven by Laboratory Studies

Session Description:
Laboratory studies are essential to developing a fundamental knowledge of atmospheric chemistry over a broad range of environmental conditions and, in turn, applying that knowledge to interpret and improve observations and models of Earth’s atmosphere; specifically the distribution, reactions, and lifetimes of gases and particles. This session seeks to highlight advances in atmospheric chemistry facilitated by laboratory studies. Topic areas include, but are not limited to: gas-phase chemistry, heterogeneous chemistry, condensed-phase and aqueous-phase chemistry, physicochemical properties, kinetics, reaction mechanisms, chemical synthesis, and identification and quantification of chemical species. We aim to provide a platform to showcase the key role of laboratory studies in atmospheric chemistry as well as discuss emerging research needs, future applications, and collaborative research opportunities with the modeling and field measurement communities.
