Remote Sensing of the Cryosphere: Sea Ice

Session Description:
Sea ice is a critical component of the Earth’s climate system and a key indicator of climate change. In recent decades, the Arctic and Antarctic have experienced significant changes, highlighting the need for improved monitoring and analysis. Remote sensing has greatly advanced our ability to observe these evolving conditions across a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. This session focuses on recent advances in sea ice remote sensing, including the retrieval of geophysical properties such as thickness, motion, extent, lead fraction, floe size, melt ponds, and snow cover. Topics include algorithm development, novel techniques, model evaluation, validation with in situ data, process studies, and interdisciplinary research. We particularly encourage submissions related to ongoing field campaigns and remote sensing initiatives (e.g., CEMSIE, RCM, SWOT, NISAR), as well as preparation for upcoming missions (CRISTAL, CIMR, EDGE).
