Water and Society: Digital Water - From Data to Decisions in Human-Water Systems

Session Description:
Digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, large language models, digital twins, and real-time data systems, are reshaping how human-water systems are observed, modeled, and governed. This session focuses on how these “Digital Water” tools support decision-making, planning, management, and resilience in coupled human-water systems under changing climatic and socio-economic conditions. We welcome contributions on technological and methodological advances, as well as studies examining how digital innovations interact with human behavior, stakeholder engagement, institutional dynamics, equity, and the role of human values in water decisions. Contributions may address applications, theory, and critical challenges, including uncertainty, transparency, interpretability, bias, and implementation barriers. This session provides a forum for interdisciplinary research on how digital innovations can support effective, inclusive, and resilient water decisions and governance across scales.
