Nutrient Transport and Soil Processes: Informing Mitigation and Management in Agricultural Landscapes

Session Description:
Nutrient transport driven by hydrological processes in agricultural landscapes strongly influences water quality, soil health, and ecosystem sustainability. This session explores current research and innovative strategies for understanding and managing nutrient dynamics, with emphasis on the cycling and transport of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus and soil processes that regulate their availability, transformation, and movement.

We highlight holistic approaches spanning microscale to landscape scales that integrate biophysical processes with management practices. Special attention is given to the role of landscape features in nutrient retention and transformation, as well as mitigation strategies such as cover crops, buffer strips, constructed wetlands, and other nature-based solutions.

The session also emphasizes collaboration with farmers, land managers, and stakeholders to co-develop practical and sustainable nutrient management strategies, including social, economic, and policy dimensions. We invite contributions that advance understanding of nutrient transport, soil processes, and mitigation to support resilient agroecosystems.
