Mountain glaciers and alpine environments across time: integrating proxy reconstructions, modeling approaches, and modern observations

Session Description:
Mountain glacier reconstructions inform our understanding of the modern cryospheric response to climate, while studies of present-day glaciers provide key context for projecting future glacial behavior. This interdisciplinary session seeks to bring together paleoclimate and cryosphere researchers working on glaciers and alpine environments. We welcome submissions on glacier chronologies and paleoclimate using a variety of proxies, such as lake sediment records, cosmogenic nuclides, radiocarbon, optically stimulated luminescence, ice cores, speleothems, and marine records; modeling of glaciers in the past, present, and future; and modern observations from remote sensing, repeat photography, and field measurements. Suitable topics include time periods like the Little Ice Age, the Last Deglaciation, and Plio-Pleistocene glacial-interglacial cycles; processes such as glacial erosion and glacial landscape evolution; and studies of glacier dynamics. We encourage contributions from glaciated ranges worldwide. Contributions from glacier-adjacent disciplines—for instance ecology, biology, geochemistry, geodesy, seismology, geodynamics, atmospheric science—are also welcome.
