Session Description:
The atmospheric planetary boundary layer (PBL) is at the heart of several fundamental atmospheric science challenges, including extreme weather; turbulent mixing between the PBL and the free troposphere; cloud-climate feedback; and surface fluxes of energy, water and carbon between the atmosphere and the ocean, land, and ice surfaces. The 2017-2027 Earth Science and Applications from Space Decadal Survey recommended the PBL as a targeted observable priority for incubation studies. Significant work has been done during the last few years, and the community is now preparing for the next Decadal Survey. In this session, we welcome presentations on orbital, suborbital, surface-based, modeling and data science PBL investigations focused on weather, air quality and Earth system science topics.
