Coastal Resilience with Data-Driven Planning Approaches

Session Description:
Coastal communities face growing risks from storm surge, extreme rainfall, sea-level rise, and compound flooding, creating an urgent need to translate hazard science into actionable planning, design, and policy strategies for the built environment. This session invites contributions that bridge natural hazards research and applied spatial planning to advance resilient coastal communities. We welcome submissions that use hazard modeling, spatial analytics, GIS, and vulnerability assessment to inform physical and policy interventions.
Topics include, but are not limited to, (1) data-informed siting and spatial optimization of nature-based solutions; (2) integration of predictive flood data into master planning, zoning, and managed retreat strategies; (3) evaluation of the mitigation performance of green infrastructure and site-scale adaptation measures; and (4) development of spatial decision-support tools that translate hazard data into practical guidance for planners, designers, and local governments. This session highlights how hazard-informed approaches can move from analysis to implementation.
