Multisector Dynamics: Critical Minerals and Materials – Demand, Supply Chains, and System Interactions

Session Description:
The rapid expansion of key economic sectors—including energy systems, infrastructure, and emerging digital sectors—is driving growing demand for critical minerals and materials (CMM), creating challenges for supply security and system resilience. These materials are embedded within interconnected Human-Earth systems, where dynamics across sectors—such as energy, industry, land, and water—jointly shape demand, supply, and system outcomes.
This session aims to advance understanding of CMM within multisector systems, including but not limited to: (1) quantifying cross-sector material demand; (2) sectoral competition and responses to CMM supply constraints, including circular economy approaches (3) multi-stage supply chains and trade networks; and (4) interactions of CMM supply chains with energy, water, land, and emissions systems. We broadly invite submissions related to these research areas, including quantitative analyses, model and database development, and AI/ML approaches that improve representation of multisector CMM dynamics.
