Making Satellite Data Experiential to Better Support Environmental Decision-Making

Satellite data, such as that collected by NASA’s fleet of Earth observing missions, has become foundational across research, policy, and industry—but its complexity often limits its impact. This session explores how organizations turn federal and private Earth observation data into experiential tools and platforms that help decision-makers intuitively understand complex scenarios. From immersive data visualization (AR/VR, 3D environments), to real-time dashboards, to interactive digital twin simulations and storytelling/gamified interfaces, the session will showcase projects that bridge the gap between scientific data and human-centered, visually-driven decision-making. Attendees will gain insight into emerging design patterns, technologies, and partnerships that turn satellite insights into usable experiences and learn from successful projects that translate complex geospatial datasets into decision-support tools.
