The path to science is neither unique nor necessarily linear. Some people identified their passion early in life while others stumbled upon it. While we often only tell the story of our research, here is an opportunity to share the story of YOU. We invite speakers to share their path to science and the experiences that shaped it– moments of inspiration, setbacks, joy, or doubt. The goal of this session is to highlight the various ways that life and a love of science merge and to shine a light for others navigating their own journeys. 

Members of the Biogeosciences DEI committee invite folks in academia, government, NGOs, industry, and beyond to share their science origin story across career stages. Following short-story presentations, we will host an engaging panel of speakers followed by a community discussion. 

Abstracts can be concise mini-versions of the story arc, in an “and… but… therefore…” format.
