Cooperative Strategies for Wildland Fire Science and Management: Integrating Earth Observation Science, Technologies and Operations to Enhance Community and Ecosystem Resilience

Session Description:
An increase in wildland fire has raised challenges for communities and land management globally. Across sectors, scientists, technologists, and operational decision-makers are collaborating on new approaches and strategies for managing risks and impacts to better align fire management with ecological processes while reducing risk to people and infrastructure. This session will explore the state of the science on wildland fire across scales and disciplines, with particular attention to how advances in integrated data systems, risk modeling, and decision-support tools can be used to quantify and reduce uncertainty, and ultimately, inform more adaptive and resilient management strategies. We will highlight innovative collaborations and partnerships across private, local, federal, and international partners, sharing a large cross-section of experience and perspectives. This session will focus on work that is advancing the science and practice of wildland fire management in ways that support resilient ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
