Planetary Health and Planetary Boundaries: Earth System Dynamics and Human Well-being

Session Description:
This session examines the intersection of Planetary Health and planetary boundaries, focusing on how Earth system dynamics influence population health from local to global scales. We invite contributions that advance understanding of linkages between planetary boundaries and human health, including: (1) mechanisms by which planetary boundary transgressions affect health via pathways such as food security, infectious disease, air / water quality, or climate-related morbidity; (2) interactions, synergies & trade-offs among boundaries and their cumulative health impacts; (3) innovative observational networks, remote sensing applications, and models that quantify boundary–health relationships; (4) interventions that restore Earth systems while advancing health equity; (5) frameworks for translating science into policy and practice. Interdisciplinary work spanning Earth system science, public health, epidemiology, ecology, and social sciences is encouraged, including innovative approaches such as machine learning, complex systems modeling, or causal inference methods. The aim is to foster collaboration and inform strategies for a livable future.
