Foundation Models for Earth and Beyond: Operational Pipelines, Optimizations, and Novel Applications

Session Description:
Scientific foundation models (FMs) are rapidly transitioning from theoretical frameworks to operational realities across Earth systems, planetary sciences and deep-space exploration. This session focuses on the novel downstream applications and day-to-day deployment of FMs across Earth and space domains.

We invite contributions that address the full pipeline: preparing diverse, multi-mission data for model ingestion; fine-tuning and optimizing models for domain-specific tasks; meeting deployment constraints of speed, accessibility and scalability; and post-processing outputs into useful, reliable scientific results. We also welcome work on model lifecycle management.

This session prioritizes real-world use cases over purely theoretical treatments. Presenters are encouraged to share concrete operational strategies, lessons learned and best practices for integrating FMs into complex scientific workflows. Our goal is a collaborative exchange that advances the community’s collective ability to deploy and use FMs responsibly and effectively.
