Terrestrial Ecosystem Hydraulics in a Changing World

Session Description:
Of all the ways that climate change affects plants, feedbacks linked to increasing drought and heat stress have proven to be among the most harmful and the most difficult to predict. Historically, a holistic understanding of these responses has been hindered by an incomplete understanding of how hydraulic processes, in soils and plants, influence and interact with plant gas exchange, growth, and mortality risk. This session, which is organized by the PSInet research coordination network, will present cutting-edge research describing how plant and soil hydraulic processes influence ecosystem function, productivity, and survival. We welcome submissions that leverage data from diverse sources - including field studies, environmental networks, and remote sensing - in creative ways that push the frontiers of our understanding of ecosystem hydraulics.
