Air chemistry research has advanced along separate tracks for outdoor and indoor environments, yet the processes governing human exposure span both. Organic gases and aerosols cross the indoor-outdoor boundary, react on surfaces, and transform through photochemical and multiphase pathways shaping composition, reactivity, and fate. Recent wildfires (e.g., LA 2025) showed how episodic emissions alter regional chemistry and leave persistent indoor reservoirs. Emerging sources such as volatile chemical products, cooking, and cleaning traverse the boundary between emissions, exposure, and atmospheric oxidation.
This session bridges outdoor and indoor atmospheric chemistry through measurements, mechanistic insights, and modeling connecting gas and particle phases across environments. We welcome contributions on wildfire smoke chemistry and infiltration; indoor-outdoor transport and fluxes, including mobile measurements and eddy covariance; multiphase and surface chemistry of organic aerosol; emerging pollutants from volatile chemical products and combustion; and integration of measurements with models and toxicology to quantify exposures.
