Scrubbing the Sky: Reimagining Air as a Resource

Session Description:
Direct air capture (DAC) is evolving from a carbon removal tool into a broader platform for atmospheric resource recovery. Inspired by concepts that reframe air as a usable resource, this session explores DAC systems coupled with co-benefits such as critical mineral recovery, hydrogen production, water generation, noble gas capture (krypton and xenon), and contributions to grid stability through flexible, load-balancing operations. We invite contributions spanning advanced sorbents, membranes, hybrid chemical-biological systems, and integrated process designs that enhance selectivity, efficiency, and techno-economic performance. Topics include modular DAC systems, coupling with subsurface and geochemical processes, recovery of trace atmospheric constituents, and deployment strategies leveraging existing infrastructure. By emphasizing multifunctional DAC approaches, this session aims to highlight scalable pathways that improve economic viability while advancing carbon removal, resource security, and resilient energy systems.
