Recent Advances in Seabed Mineral Science on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf

Session Description:
Executive Order 14285  outlined an ambitious plan for the U.S. Government and partners to map and characterize seabed mineral resources in priority areas to advance U.S. leadership in responsible seabed mineral exploration and to support investment in the offshore critical mineral industry. Since the EO was issued, U.S. Federal agencies (e.g., National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, and the United States Geological Survey) have worked in partnership with academia and the private sector to prioritize mapping and geologic sampling in areas of the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) anticipated to be the most prospective for seabed minerals. We invite presentations that highlight recent activities, scientific results, and upcoming plans associated with seabed mineral related work on the U.S. OCS since April 2025. This includes geophysical and geological mapping, complementary environmental (e.g., biological, oceanographic) studies, and technological innovations with a focus on marine minerals.
